When you take your marriage vows, you really don’t think about what you are saying at the moment. It’s all about what is happening now. But, when one of your vows happens that’s when you realize what it all means. Take me for instance, I’m going through the sickness and health part.
My husband has been sick for the past two months and it has been rough on both of us. For him he don’t like having someone else during for him what he thinks he should do for himself. He feels that he has always been the strong one for the family and now someone else is taking over his role. His illness has broken his spirit some and I’m doing all I can to try and keep him from feeling useless.
As for me I feel like I just became an live in nurse. I was by his side in the hospital for weeks learning everything I could to be able to care for him when he came home. I learned that you have to cope with the problems as they happens because you wont know how to handle them before hand. Through his sickness I now know what the marriage vows mean through sickness and health.
For the past 30 + years I have lived through the health except for minor sickness. Through the health you never bother to wonder what might happen in the future, you only think about the now. You live as if everything is going to stay the same forever until that day comes when things change.
For the sake of my husband and kids I try to stay focus on the here and now. I know I need to take care of myself also but when you are the caregiver of someone that needs you around the clock it’s hard to think about yourself. So I have figured out that once my duty as wife, nurse, mother and all in between is over at night I can start to take care of me.
Night is a perfect time to reflect on what it is you need to do to make yourself happy and healthy. It is the time where you can release the stress of the day and clear your head of everything and just relax for a moment. So as another day passes, I shall get ready to obey my vows of THROUGH SICKNESS AND HEALTH another day.
